Two Leeds schools confirm coronavirus cases

The council has confirmed two bubbles have been disbanded at Leeds schools after isolated cases of coronavirus were diagnosed.

The year 9 bubble at Roundhay High School and the year 6 bubble at Roundhay St John have both been separated following the cases.

Leeds city council has now said the schools are following guidance published by Public Health England and are being supported by council officers on a case by case basis.

This news comes with the coronavirus infection rate in Leeds on the rise and fears the city could be placed into a local lockdown.

Last week the city was named as an area of enhanced support.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We can confirm that the Year 9 bubble at Roundhay School and the Year 6 bubble at Roundhay St John have been disbanded. Both schools are communicating directly with parents.

“Isolated cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Leeds schools. Each school is following guidance from Public Health England and is being supported by council officers on a case by case basis.

“In some instances, the affected bubbles have been collapsed and children and staff within these will now stay at home and self-isolate for 14 days.

“All schools in Leeds have safety procedures and detailed risk assessments in place to help limit the spread of the virus."
