Two kids drown as baby clinging to life after they try to cross river from Mexico to USA

Two children have drowned and a two-month-old baby is fighting for his life after being swept away while trying to cross a river from Mexico into the United States.

Footage shows a border control official giving CPR to the baby boy after he was pulled from the Rio Grande river.

The tragedies happened in two separate incidents on Monday where migrant groups desperately attempted to make the treacherous journey into the United States.

The baby, who is now in a critical condition in a San Antonio hospital, was in one immigrant party where a three-year-old boy died as they tried to cross the river near Eagle Pass, in Texas.

And in another group trying to reach the US on Monday, a five-year-old girl died after she was swept away from her mother in the river by El Paso in Texas, reported canal44.com.

The body of the young girl, named by Mexican TV as Margaret Sofia, was found further downstream while the 28-year-old mother Silvia Garcia del Carmen was pulled safely from the water. The mother and daughter were both from Guatemala.

The Rio Grande is often used by people trying to get across from Mexico and start a new life in the United States but while it may appear calm on the surface, it has dangerous undercurrents.

On Monday, alone, five migrants were saved from the US and Mexican sides of the river.

Former US President Donald Trump promised to solve the problem of illegal immigration from Mexico by building a wall which never happened and now under Joe Biden it continues to be a major problem.

The figures of migrants caught on the border is now on course to reach two million for the first time this year.

Republican Senator Ted Cruz claimed that 2,000 people tried to cross the border in a single weekend, earlier this month.

And Fernando Garcia, founder of the Border Network for Human Rights, said that there were 20 drownings in June and July just in El Paso.

“What you don’t see is an outcry in America — why do children have to die?” he said, reported the New York Post.

Garcia said migrants bring their children hoping to offer them a better life.

“They do it because of their children…so their children don’t grow up where they will die of hunger, poverty or disease if they stay. Or violence,” he said.

“It is not easy. The poverty in these countries, it’s a kind of poverty most Americans do not know.”
