Two key players return and three new youngsters train as Man City get injury boost for Leicester

While most of Manchester City's players are away on international duty, the players who remained at the CFA have been training again this week ahead of the Premier League trip to Leicester.

City's international players will begin heading back after Wednesday night's final World Cup qualifiers of the September break, and the Blues will be hoping for a final round of games that doesn't produce any further injury concerns.

Aymeric Laporte was substituted for 'muscle fatigue' on Sunday but has since trained with Spain, while Nathan Ake withdrew from the Netherlands squad for 'personal circumstances'. Zack Steffen has tested positive for Covid-19.

City's Brazilian players remained at the club over the break as most Premier League clubs decided not to release their internationals who were headed to red list countries. They may be glad they did after the chaos at Brazil's suspended clash with Argentina.

Now that City have resumed training, we looked over the photos put out by the club and picked out some talking points:

Look who's back

Fans will be delighted to see Kevin De Bruyne back in training with Fernandinho and Gabriel Jesus, hoping he can play some part against Leicester.

MEN Sport revealed this week that De Bruyne is likely to start on the bench, but his return to action is undoubtedly a positive after he missed the last two Premier League games and the international break.

De Bruyne's return comes at a good time, with difficult tests against Leicester, RB Leipzig, PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool coming up before the next break.

Foden steps up recovery

Phil Foden could be another player making his return in the squad to face Leicester, but he seemed slightly behind De Bruyne in his recovery from injury over the summer.

City published pictures of Foden in the training ground's sandpit, doing muscle work and some ball-work while barefoot. The club said he also did some rehabilitation work back on the pitch.

Foden has been missing since picking up an injury just before England's Euro 2020 final, and hasn't been spotted in City training until now.

Four new faces

City say a number of academy players not on international duty were in training to boost the numbers, and their gallery showed three fairly new faces to the senior group.

Shea Charles spent the start of pre-season with Pep Guardiola and was recalled, while Darko Gyabi and Micah Hamilton were rewarded for strong starts to the season with call-ups to first-team training. Defender Sammy Robinson was also spotted.

Some international players return

There was no rest for those international players who already finished their stint with their countries, as James McAtee headed the players back at the CFA having been away over the last week.

McAtee is the club's top scorer with seven goals in five games for club and country - including a strike for England U20s this week against Romania.

He posted on Instagram that he was back at City already, while defender Luke Mbete added similar.

Laporte shows a new skill

Away from City, Aymeric Laporte showed he was potentially over the muscle fatigue that saw him substituted for Spain at the weekend.

The Spanish national side posted a fine free kick taken by Laporte which flew into the top corner during a training session, to the delight of his teammates.

If Laporte is over the minor issue, he could face Kosovo tonight.
