At least two people have been injured in an attack at a shopping centre in Sweden, police said.

The incident took place at the Kvarteret Igor mall in Vasteras which is around 90 kilometres (56 miles) west of the capital Stockholm.

Police said a sharp object had been used and that the attack had been classified as attempted murder.

One person was detained at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, according to the local force.

“At present, we do not suspect that there are any more perpetrators,” a police spokesperson said.

The two victims have been rushed to hospital with medical officials confirming that two men in their late 40s and early 50s were being treated for their injuries.

One is believed to be in critical condition.

Police spokesperson Magnus Jansson Klarin told local newspaper Aftonbladet that further injuries cannot be ruled out.

He said: “We can not rule out that more people have been injured, he continues.

“[The area] has been blocked off and the police have a large presence at the [scene].

“The person was arrested fairly immediately, a few minutes after we received the alarm.”
