Two Indian LPG Tankers Safely Transit Strait of Hormuz Amid Regional Tensions

The vessels are carrying a combined cargo of 92,612 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), an amount that roughly meets India’s national consumption for an entire day. Both tankers are expected to reach Indian ports between March 26 and March 28.

Sailing in close proximity, the ships passed through waters near Iran’s Larak and Qeshm islands, a route likely chosen to clearly signal their identity and ensure safe passage during transit. This coordinated movement comes at a time when the region continues to face geopolitical uncertainties that have raised concerns over maritime security.

A total of 60 Indian crew members are onboard the two vessels, highlighting the human dimension of such critical operations. Their safe journey reflects India’s proactive measures to safeguard its energy supply chain while prioritizing the security of its personnel.

The successful passage of Pine Gas and Jag Vasant underscores India’s strategic focus on maintaining steady energy imports and navigating complex international waters with caution and preparedness.
