Praise be for the casting directors on this one. Variety recently announced that Shudder would be bringing Jane Levy and Jessica Rothe together for Joshua Giuliano’s survival slasher River, which is set for theatrical release through Independent Film Company.
On X, Discussing Film shared the news, along with a brief summary of the film, saying that it “follows 3 estranged siblings who reunite to scatter their father’s ashes on a remote river. But after their boat breaks down, they realize they’re being stalked by a faceless killer.”
Evil Dead and Happy Death Day fans, rejoice! While I have personally been awaiting Happy Death Day 3, I’ll gladly take this in the interim. Rothe has such a level of humor to her performances in those films that I can’t wait to see what she brings to River. And the premise itself seems promising enough, the location a bit unique for your typical slasher film.
Giuliano said in a statement: “River was six years in the making, a labor of love that culminated in the most rewarding experience of my life. Working with Shudder has been a thrilling collaboration and knowing River will have a theatrical release is a dream come true. I look forward to sharing our terrifying creation with audiences.”
As Bloody Disgusting said in the comments, “[m]atch made it horror heaven.”
