VARANASI: The STF of UP Police and Mumabi Crime branch on Tuesday arrested two persons from Kandva Road of Chaitaipur area of Varanasi for their alleged involvement in the murder of Mumbai builder Samarjit alias Samay Chauhan in Virar on February 26.
Those arrested have been identified as Rahul Sharma and Abhishek Singh. According to STF, after getting clues regarding involvement of shooters from Varanasi in Chauhan’s killing, the crime branch unit of Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police had sought its cooperation.
“After collecting specific inputs, the joint team of STF Varanasi field unit and crime branch unit of Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police raided a house in Anand Nagar Colony on Khandwa Road under the limits of Chitaipur police station and arrested Rahul Sharma alias Ram of Sindhora and Abhishek Singh of Kapsethi,” STF officers said.
Legal formalities to take duo to Mumbai on transit remand completed
Apart from nine mobile phones some identity proofs were also recovered from them," STF officers added.
Following their arrest, the police of crime branch unit of Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar police completed basic legal formalities at Chitaipur police station and district court to take the duo to Mumbai on transit remand.
STF officers said that Chauhan was shot dead in broad daylight near D-Mart in Virar on February 26 afternoon. During investigation in this sensational murder case, the crime branch unit of Mira Bayander Vasai Virar police got clues regarding involvement of Rahul and Ankur.
Further, on checking the CCTV footage of the incident it came to light that Manish Singh alias Sonu, who was eliminated during exchange of fire with STF here on March 21 and one more miscreant had been involved in killing Chauhan. Rahul and Ankur confessed to their involvement in the murder.
Regarding Rahul, the STF said that he had been sentenced to life in the killing of one Vijay Pujari alias Batta in 2013. However, he was absconding. In 2013, Rahul had opened fire on Azil Sheikh in Mumbai and also murdered Bunty Pradhan near Pushpak Hotel in Mira Road area in 2015.
