Two gambling dens were raided, equipment seized and 104 punters arrested in Bangkok on Saturday night, the Department of Provincial Administration announced on Sunday morning.
One casino was inside a luxury development on Hathairat Road in Khlong Sam Wa, in an illegally converted single-storey warehouse. Sixty-three gamblers, 33 men and 30 women, were detained.
Officials seized hi-lo dice gambling equipment, card tables used for poker-style games, fish-shooting machines and more than 300,000 baht in cash.
The second raid was inside a former petrol station in Soi Seri Thai 9, Bueng Kum district. Officials arrested 41 gamblers, 21 men and 20 women, and confiscated about 50,000 baht in cash along with hi-lo gambling equipment and other items.
The Hathairat Road gambling den was uncovered following complaints by local residents, with evidence gathered by undercover officers.
The premises had been rented from a property developer in November last year under the pretext of being used as a storage warehouse. The casino was a 24-hour gambling operation with players rotated in shifts due to limited space. The daily cash flow was believed to be at least 1 million baht.
Similar gambling dens had been found in several areas of Bangkok, some employing guards to limit the number of gamblers allowed inside.
