Two cops seriously injured in Wishaw blade attack as they took 10-year-old home

Two police officers have been seriously injured after being attacked by a 'bladed weapon' in Wishaw yesterday.

The incident took place when the officers were approached by a man while dealing with a separate incident involving the return a 10-year-old boy to an address on Greenfield Drive, Cambusnethan.

One of the constables, aged 24, suffered a serious injury to his hand caused by a bladed weapon and the other constable, aged 23, suffered a serious head injury.

Both men were taken to the University Hospital Wishaw where they remain in a stable condition.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested and police enquiries remain ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "The response officers were dealing with a separate incident returning a 10-year-old boy to an address on Greenfield Drive, Wishaw, when they were approached by the 25-year-old.

"One of the constables, aged 24, suffered a serious injury to his hand caused by a bladed weapon and the other constable, aged 23, suffered a serious head injury.

Both men were taken to the University Hospital Wishaw where they remain in a stable condition.

"The 25-year-old has been arrested and enquiries remain ongoing."
