Twitter user creates hilarious 'Golden Turd' account for controversial new St James hotel

In recent weeks, the final form of the new St James Centre - now to be called St James Quarter - has begun to take shape, with work now underway to add some of the finishing touches to the new development.

However, the centre has also seen some debate over its unique 'orange peel' hotel which will be occupied by W when it opens in 2021.

The curling top of the hotel, one of the central parts of the design, has been dubbed a "golden turd" by some unimpressed locals, who have also noted the swirly structure can be seen far and wide across the city.

Now, in a hilarious addition, the "Golden Turd" hotel has even had its own Twitter account made, updating locals with all of the latest news about this controversial new structure.

Created with the handle @TurdHotel, the bio has described the building as a "golden pile of pure s***e", alongside the hashtag 'jobby hotel'.

The account now has over 600 followers who enjoy reading information about the building, as well as some hilarious comments made about it.

One post retweeted by @TurdHotel showed a picture of an Edinburgh Castle cannon pointing directly at the building, with the caption: "Ever so slightly to the left and if we are willing to sacrifice the top of Scott monument @TurdHotel might be a hit."

Another even went slightly further, tweeting a picture of the hotel and adding:

"Well, the golden turd is now the biggest feature of the Edinburgh skyline as seen from Inverleith Park aside from Arthur's Seat.

"What an absolutely stonking jobby."
