Twitter marks doctored video tweeted by Donald Trump as 'manipulated media'

Twitter has flagged a post by Donald Trump as "manipulated media" after the US president tweeted a doctored video apparently showing a misleading CNN clip.

The clip that Mr Trump posted first showed a video with CNN-style branding that looked like a black toddler was running away from a white child. The second half of the video showed the "context", with both children playing happily together.

The video denies that racism is a problem in the US and instead accuses "fake news" of spreading misinformation.

But the caption for the "CNN" segment reads: “Terrified todler (sic) runs from racist baby.”

Twitter added a warning label underneath the tweet, which Mr Trump posted on Thursday evening.

The news comes on the same day as Facebook removed adverts by Mr Trump which appeared to contain a symbol used by the Nazi party.

Mr Trump's adverts featured prominent red downwards arrows, a sign that the Nazis used to mark political prisoners.

The president was criticised by Jewish campaign groups and others for using the symbol. The Trump re-election campaign said the symbols were used by far-left groups.

Mr Trump also posted a video in a similar vein later on Thursday night.

The clip showed a black taxi driver apparently being chased away by a white supporter of Mr Trump, with a video going viral on social media and CNN reporting on it. The clip later revealed that the Trump supporter had really been helping the taxi driver.

Twitter has flagged several controversial tweets by the president in recent weeks, as well as adding a label to a post that said it "glorified violence".

Meanwhile Mr Trump has signed an executive order that gives fewer protections to social media companies regarding content on their platforms.
