The party, attended by more than 300 people, was being livestreamed when gunfire suddenly erupted, sending guests running for safety. The person who died was later identified as Desiderio Romero V, a close friend and former classmate of the streamer. After the incident, NateDeBaiits shared an emotional message, saying he was "truly heartbroken" over the loss.

The shooting happened on the night of July 25 in an open field near Morgan Hill, California, where NateDeBaiits was celebrating his birthday. According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, deputies were first called to the area after reports of intoxicated people in the street and bottles being thrown at passing cars.
