Twisted messages found on bullet casings after Charlie Kirk shooting - what do they mean?

Twisted messages engraved on the ammunition found at the scene of Charlie Kirk's killing have been revealed.

Four cartridges were recovered at the scene of the shooting of the MAGA influencer by a sniper from a roof at Utah Valley University, authorities confirmed on Friday.

It is believed suspect Tyler Robinson, 22, scrawled the messages on the casings before carrying out the shooting at Utah Valley University in Orem on Wednesday.

One bullet casing read: "Oh, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao Ciao Ciao" which are lyrics to a popular Italian anti-fascist song sung during World War II.

Another read “Hey fascist! Catch!” Utah’s governor, Spencer Cox said it most clearly showed the gunman’s apparent motive for the killing. “I think that speaks for itself,” he said.

Robinson reportedly expressed negative views of Mr Kirk and had spoken with a family member the day before the shooting “who also stated Kirk was full of hate and spreading hate,” Cox said.

The suspect had become “more political” in recent years, according to family members, investigators said.

The inscription on one bullet "If you read this, you are gay" is an apparent reference to online trolling humour.

A fired shell casing was inscribed with “notices bulges OwO what’s this?” - a reference to a “copypasta” - a piece of text that is repeated over and over again, often to troll people online.

A different casing had "Up arrow, right arrow, and three down arrow symbols," which appeared to be a reference to a sequence of controller moves that unleashes bombs on the video game Helldivers.

Robinson was taken into custody on Friday.

“We got him,” said Utah Governor Spencer Cox at the start of a press conference on Friday.

The Republican said that a family friend of suspect Tyler Robinson had contacted Washington County sheriff’s office “with information that Robinson had confessed to them or implied that he had committed the incident”.
