Twins charged with historical child rape

Police have charged twin brothers with the historical rape of two boys in regional NSW (AAP)

Twin brothers have been charged with raping two boys in regional NSW, after a strikeforce investigating the disappearance of three teenage girls in the area uncovered the historical abuse.

Police on Thursday arrested a 69-year-old Greenacre man and charged him with 41 offences they say were committed in the Lake Macquarie area in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Among the charges are multiple counts of raping a child between the age of 10 and 16, committing sexual assault in company and inciting an indecent act committed against a person under 16.

He was refused bail to appear in Bankstown Local Court on Thursday.

His twin brother was arrested last week on November 17, and charged with similar offences.

He is due before Blacktown Local Court on January 13.

The boys knew both men, police say.

Strike Force Arapaima made the discovery while investigating a private fundraiser the night 14-year-old Amanda Robinson disappeared from Lake Macquarie in April 1979.

The strikeforce is also investigating the disappearances and suspected murder of 18-year-old Robyn Hickie, also in 1979, and the 1994 kidnapping and suspected murder of 16-year-old Gordana Kotevski.
