Twins, 5, turn pet dog into colouring book - and they stayed within the lines

Dogs can teach children about responsibility, compassion and how to cope with loss when the time comes. But that's not all because they can also make for great baby sitters. A mum has hilariously shared why you should never trust your children alone with your pet dog after her Australian shepherd was turned into a 'rainbow'.

Sharing a picture to Reddit, the mum explained how her five-year-old twins decided to colour in the unsuspecting pooch when they got bored of their colouring books. She said: "Our dog is so ready for the kids to go back to school. The other day, my twin girls decided our Aussie needed some colour and some racing stripes to 'help him go fast like Turbo'.

The children used non-toxic markers (Reddit)

"I had stepped away to help my three-year-old in the bathroom."

Thankfully, her children used non-toxic markers that could be easily washed off skin, furniture and walls.

She added: "I should add that the Aussie has the patience of a saint and will tolerate all manner of shenanigans from the kids. He's a very good dog.

"He was adopted from the local kill-shelter shortly after my twins were born.

"He was already three or four years old when we adopted him and that was five years ago.

"He bonded with the kids instantly. He's always keeping an eye on them when they play, or running alongside their bikes when they play outside. It's amazing how devoted he is to the twins."

The family also has a rescue Pitbull who is utterly besotted with her youngest child.

"It's amazing to me to see how different breeds/personalities 'naturally' gravitate towards similar personalities in one another," she said.

While most users couldn't help but laugh at the colourful pooch, others praised the five-year-olds for 'keeping within the lines'.

One user said: "He does look a lot faster."

Another user added: "I'm just impressed with the symmetry."

A third user said: "That is one snazzy jazzy pup!"
