NOIDA: The Noida Authority has called a meeting of all stakeholders on Monday to discuss ways to evacuate residents of nearby flats on the day the twin towers are demolished.
Senior officials of the developer Supertech, Edifice Engineering, the company that will carry out the demolition, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and police will attend the meeting, which has been convened by the CEO of the Noida Authority.
Officials said apart from the evacuation of residents of nearby flats, the overall safety of all buildings and establishments in the vicinity would be discussed.
Sources in the company said Edifice wanted all residents to vacate their flats by 7am on August 21, when the towers are supposed to be brought down.
The police, the sources said, might suggest that the flat owners are evacuated the previous night itself. The final decision will be taken at the meeting.
“Issues related to safety and security will primarily be discussed at the meeting. We will finalise the exclusion zone and evacuation plan, besides traffic management. Additionally, we will have to think about a plan for hospitals in the area as patients cannot be evacuated,” said Uttkarsh Mehta, a partner at Edifice.
An NDRF team will be deployed at the site to deal with any emergencies. Firefighters and ambulances will also be stationed at the site.
The residents of nearby flats, however, said they were yet to get any official notification from the government or the authority about the demolition date.
Atul Chaturvedi, president of the ATS Greens Village AOA, said they were waiting for a government order. “The last time, we were told we could vacate the society by 11am on the day of the demolition. Now, if we are asked to leave our houses the night before, we will have to manage things accordingly. We will have to take the help of the police or our own security staff,” he added.
“Some people are planning to go to their relatives’ place in Delhi, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad, while the others might spend the day in hotels,” Chaturvedi said.
There are 660 flats in Emerald Court and 736 in ATS Greens Village.
