Twelve-storey hotel with gym and indoor courtyard gets green light for city centre

A new 12-storey hotel has been given the green light for the city centre.

The 165-bed development was this week approved by council planners for a site on the corner of Osborne Street and Old Wynd, which is currently used as a car park.

The hotel will boast views of John Byrne's iconic Billy Connolly mural – along with a first-floor living zone and eating area, gym, kitchen and an internal courtyard space for guests to unwind.

Belfast-based architects Urban Innovations left no stone unturned in their bid to woo council chiefs – describing in their design statement how the south-facing hotel will have sunlight pouring in from the morning until the afternoon.

Designing on behalf of developers Dominvs, they argued the new hotel could be "a potentially key part of the city centre" – which will help connect the river to the city centre and shopping areas.

A previous statement from the firm said: "The design will create a building that compliments the surrounding area and its uses. It will infill this gap site in the city."

Their statement added: "The intention is to gain full permission in accordance with design guidelines established for Glasgow.

"Dominvs Project Company 12 Ltd are committed to the regeneration of this site and providing long term economic stimulus and activity to the area."

We'll have more on the hotel plans in due course – so keep your eye out on Glasgow Live.
