Inside No 9, 10 pm, BBC Two
Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith are masters of mixing razor-sharp comedy with sinister tales of the unexpected, and there’s plenty of both in this deliciously macabre slice of TV.
The story begins when brothers Harry and Edward (Pemberton and Shearsmith) break into the home of old East End gangster Reggie and his wife Frances, and then takes us on a twisty journey that’s not for the faint-hearted. Former EastEnders stars Anita Dobson and Phil Daniels are a hoot as this week’s guest stars; it’s just a shame they can’t have their own spin-off show!

The Curse, 10 pm, Channel 4
From The Gold to A Town Called Malice, the infamous ‘Costa del Crime’ of the 1980s has been all over our TV screens recently. But we’re pleased to be heading down to Spain again as this warm-hearted crime caper about a hapless gang of crooks returns for a second series.
After accidentally pulling off the biggest gold heist in history last time, Albert (People Just Do Nothing’s Allan Mustafa) and wife Natasha (Father Brown’s Emer Kenny) are now setting up a hotel and restaurant business. But it’s Big Mick Neville (King Gary’s Tom Davis) who steals the show again, with a comedy voice for the ages.

Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs, 8:30 pm, ITV1
This show makes you either weep or giggle uncontrollably thanks to the late Paul’s warmth as presenter. Tonight, the tales of an unhappy Shorkie (a Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier cross) with a large lump and a spaniel that has lost all faith in humans after being tied up are quite heartbreaking, but a visitor to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home also brings a big smile – it’s Harry Hill. ★★★ NT
Sweet Tooth, Netflix
The family-friendly fantasy is back for a second series this week, with half-human hybrid Gus and his friends having to gather their strength to figure out what caused the Great Crumble, the chaotic era when 98% of the world’s population was killed off by a virus.
But as Gus begins a dark journey to find a cure for a new wave of the Sick, he also learns more about his own origins, as well as his mother Birdie’s role in the events leading up to the collapse of society. Christian Convery (recently seen in Cocaine Bear) returns as Gus, alongside Nonso Anozie and Adeel Akhtar. James Brolin acts as narrator.

Best box set on TV tonight
The always-excellent Keri Russell stars as Kate Wyler, the newly appointed US Ambassador to the United Kingdom, who was hoping to be sent to Afghanistan rather than London. But as threats of war bubble over across the world, Kate has to make do with the UK, where she defuses international crises, forges strategic alliances, and adjusts to her new life and career.
Making everything harder is Kate’s need to balance the grandeur and majesty of working with heads of state with surviving her long-term marriage to fellow career diplomat and political star Hal Wyler (Rufus Sewell). The political thriller also stars Brits David Gyasi and Rory Kinnear, while Celia Imrie makes a guest appearance.

Stan & Ollie, 9 pm, BBC Four
Biopic of Laurel and Hardy, focusing on the events of 1953 as the comedy duo try to re-ignite their film careers by embarking on a gruelling tour of British variety halls. As they set out on their demanding schedule, with their wives back home in the US, Stan is distracted by his attempts to pin down the producer of their proposed comeback film and Ollie tries to heal a rift caused by a perceived professional betrayal. The build-up of pressure starts to tarnish their precious partnership. Steve Coogan and John C Reilly star.
