TV on DVD: 'Roots,' 'Legends of Tomorrow'

Miniseries: It wasn't a phenomenon like ABC's 1977 original from the three-network era. But A&E/History's recent reinterpretation of Alex Haley's American slavery story was hailed by critics and fans for its gritty realism, embodied by Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Malachi Kirby, Anika Noni Rose.

Extras: Detailed documentary on the setting's real-life history _ slave-era African societies, horrors of slave trade/transport, plantation economics, slaves' resistance, post-Civil War struggles, lots more.
