TUS Gaelic Grounds to host hurling double header while RTE to screen Galway-Mayo

Limerick will host an All-Ireland hurling quarter-final double-header this weekend, while the Galway-Mayo football tie is to be shown live on RTE 1.

The TUS Gaelic Grounds will be the venue for Dublin-Clare and Galway-Tipperary games on Saturday, which will throw in at 4pm and 6.15pm respectively, with both live on RTE.

Three of the four All-Ireland football preliminary quarter-finals will be staged on Saturday, with Donegal hosting Tyrone and Roscommon travelling to Cork, while Kildare’s request to play their ‘home’ tie against Monaghan at O’Connor Park in Tullamore has been granted while their own St Conleth’s Park is being redeveloped.

The Galway-Mayo tie takes place on Sunday, however, to avoid a clash with the Galway hurlers’ the day before, though the Salthill meeting cuts across the two Tailteann Cup semi-finals.

Given that the GAA and RTE were tied into an arrangement to show both Tailteann Cup games live, it was expected that Galway-Mayo would only be available on GAAGO, which would likely have prompted an outcry given that it is the standout football game of the weekend and arguably the Championship so far.

But RTE has rejigged its schedule to make the all-Connacht clash more accessible to a wider audience and it will be shown on RTE 1 with a 3pm throw-in, with the Meath-Antrim (2pm) and Down-Laois (4pm) Tailteann Cup semi-finals starting either side of it, live on RTE 2.
