Turnover jumps by £10m at barristers' set home to 24 QCs

A barristers’ set with chambers in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds grew its turnover by £10m during its latest financial year.

Exchange Chambers has reported a turnover of £41m for the period, up 32% on the year before.

The figure is also higher than the £33m it posted for its 12 months before the pandemic.

Chief executive Jonathan I’Anson said: "The strong performance of the business is a credit to our outstanding barristers, clerks and staff.

"It has been an exceptional effort, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. We are seeing high quality instructions across all practice areas.

"Our expansion strategy is based on attracting the highest quality work and the highest quality barristers.

"This is fuelling our growth and attracting applications from barristers from all over the country."

This year, Lisa Linklater QC and Chris Barnes QC have both taken silk while Mark Rhind QC, Giles Maynard-Connor QC, Imran Shafi QC and David Temkin QC did in 2021.

Head of chambers Bill Braithwaite QC added: "As one of the largest and most well-resourced chambers, we are committed to implementing our Northern powerhouse expansion strategy,” said Bill.

"We have been proactive in responding to the changing environment by supporting our members and delivering the very highest levels of service to our clients.

"We also recognise the importance of supporting members who wish to work flexibly while promoting equality and diversity at the Bar."

Exchange Chambers has 200 members, including 24 silks.
