Turmoil over coronavirus results in Dumfries and Galloway

Confusion surrounds the results of the region’s first official coronavirus case.

The Scottish Government announced on its website on Monday that there was a positive case in Dumfries and Galloway.

But soon after the region’s health board admitted that two tests carried out on a resident were inconclusive.

They were waiting on results from a third test as the Standard went to press.

Hospital sources suggested the case involved a man in his late twenties.

A health board spokesman said they were treating the inconclusive tests as a “positive case”.

He added that 55 tests have been carried out in the region by the public health team.

The spokesman told the Standard: “Tests carried out at the weekend resulted in weak positive results.

“The person has been retested for a third time and we are still waiting on the results.

“In the meantime, we are treating it as a positive case.

“We are, however, still expecting other cases of coronavirus to be confirmed in the region in the following days and weeks.”

A total of 4,895 tests have been carried out across Scotland with 171 of those positive.

One patient in Scotland who tested positive has died, it was announced on Friday.

In neighbouring Ayrshire and Arran, the number of positive cases yesterday was reported as seven.

The Borders also had seven positive cases.

The latest figures are reported on the Scottish Government website at 2pm each day.
