Turkey makes major Covid travel restriction change for Brits ahead of summer

Turkey has scrapped all of its Covid-19 travel restrictions for people entering the country ahead of the summer.

With people across Scotland getting ready to jet off for some much-needed summer sun, the announcement comes at an opportune time for travellers.

As of now, foreigners entering the country are no longer required to display proof that they have been vaccinated against the virus or a negative PCR test.

According to new guidance from the UK Government: "As of 1 June, all COVID-19 restrictions in Turkey have been lifted, and passengers arriving in Turkey are no longer required to present proof of vaccination or negative PCR test results.

"However, COVID-19 entry requirements may change at short notice, you should check the specifics with your airline before you travel."

Prior to the change, passengers entering Turkey from the UK had to present their Covid-19 vaccination certificate, and those were not vaccinated had to present a negative PCR or rapid antigen test result.

The country's national airline Turkish Airlines has also updated its passenger guidelines, stating that previous rules regarding Covid-19 "have been cancelled".

The airline stated: "Wearing a mask on international flights to Türkiye (Turkey) is at the passenger's discretion."

Turkey now joins over 30 popular holiday destinations that have scrapped their Covid-19 rules, including Cyprus, Croatia and Greece.
