Tunisia denies claim of drone strike on Greta Thunberg’s Gaza flotilla

  • A Gaza-bound flotilla, with activist Greta Thunberg aboard, reported a suspected drone strike on one of its boats in Tunisian waters, causing fire damage to the main deck and storage.
  • The Global Sumud Flotilla for Gaza (GSF), comprising about 20 vessels from 44 nations, aims to break Israel's naval blockade on the embattled Gaza Strip.
  • Tunisian authorities denied the drone attack claims, saying their investigation found no drone activity and suggested the fire originated inside the vessel, possibly caused by a cigarette.
  • Ms Thunberg condemned the situation in Gaza, describing it as "genocide" and "mass starvation by Israel's murder machine".
  • The flotilla, which departed Barcelona on 31 August, is expected to be intercepted by Israeli forces, with reports suggesting plans to arrest Ms Thunberg and seize the ships.
