Troubled Marriage and Allegations
According to family members, the victim, Devkrishna, had been in a deeply strained marriage for years. His sister, Jyoti, alleged that his wife Priyanka frequently humiliated him over his appearance, reportedly telling him, “Tum kaale ho, mujhe deserve nahi karte” (You are dark-skinned, you don’t deserve me).
Jyoti claimed that tensions between the couple had been escalating over time, marked by frequent arguments and emotional distress. She further alleged that Priyanka often attended social gatherings where her suspected lover was present, intensifying conflicts at home.
The family also suspected an extramarital affair dating back to 2020. Jyoti described instances that, according to her, reflected growing distance in the relationship, including moments where Priyanka would stand at the window while the alleged partner passed by.
Murder Initially Reported as Robbery
The incident took place late at night in Gondikheda Charan village and was initially reported as a robbery gone wrong. Priyanka Purohit (27) told police that three to four unidentified men had entered the house, held the couple hostage in separate rooms, looted jewellery worth around ₹3 lakh and ₹50,000 in cash, and killed her husband before fleeing.
However, investigators soon found inconsistencies in her account.
Jewellery that was allegedly stolen was later recovered from inside the house, raising serious doubts. Additionally, the nature of Devkrishna’s injuries suggested a targeted attack rather than a random burglary.
Investigation Reveals Conspiracy
Assistant Superintendent of Police Parul Belapurkar stated that missing mobile data, contradictions in Priyanka’s statements, and forensic evidence pointed toward foul play.
As questioning intensified, the robbery narrative began to collapse. Police believe the crime was premeditated and staged to resemble a burglary.
Investigators also uncovered that Kamlesh, Priyanka’s alleged partner, had reportedly paid around ₹1 lakh to a man named Surendra to carry out the हत्या. Surendra is currently absconding.
Confession and Arrests
Police officials confirmed that Priyanka eventually confessed to conspiring with Kamlesh to murder her husband. The alleged motive was their relationship and a plan to eliminate Devkrishna.
Authorities also revealed that Priyanka had been married at a young age—around 15—and had recently returned to her parental home shortly before the incident, where the final plan is believed to have been executed.
Both Priyanka and Kamlesh have been arrested, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The investigation is ongoing.
