Tulisa's dad dies: Devastated singer announces death of Mungo Jerry keyboard player Plato Contostavlos

Tulisa’s dad, musician Plato Contostavlos, has died.

Plato, real name Steve, was a keyboard player for the 70s band Mungo Jerry, best known for their hit single In The Summertime.

Tulisa confirmed her father’s death on Tuesday, sharing an emotional tribute on Instagram to her 840,000 followers.

“Love you pops, rest in peace,” she wrote, alongside a childhood picture of the pair. “Forever my father's daughter.”

Last year, the N-Dubz singer spoke about her relationship with her dad, saying they were “more just friends” than father and daughter.

Tulisa’s father and her mother, Ann Byrne, split when Tulisa was nine, with Plato leaving home.

“Me and my dad's relationship has not been a conventional one,” she told Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast.

“I would say me and my dad now we're just more friends that kind of have an understanding of one another.”

Mungo Jerry were formed in 1970, and the band also included Tulisa's uncle Byron - her N-Dubz bandmate Dappy’s father, who later became the manager of the hip-hop trio.

Last month, Tulisa announced she was working on a memoir that will detail the highs and “unimaginable lows” of her music career, including her collapsed drugs trial in 2014.

Tulisa was arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs in 2013, but the charges were later dismissed after prosecution witness, “fake sheikh” journalist Mazher Mahmood, was found guilty of tampering with evidence in the trial.

The book, titled Judgement, has been written using journals she wrote in amid the media storm following the sting operation that saw Mahmood pose as a wealthy film producer called Samir Khan.

In an Instagram video, she said: “90% of this no one has ever known.

“The story of my year in 2013 has been spoken about many times, but it has never been told in the way that it’s told in my new book.

“This is living all the juiciest moments from behind the scenes. This book will have you crying one moment, on the edge of your seat the next.”

She added: “I have given absolutely all of myself in this book, it’s Sex And The City on a drugs charge.”

She wrote in the caption: “As you all know, I’ve been through the highs and some unimaginable lows in my career.

“For the first time, I’m sharing everything. The truth, the pain, the fallout, and the strength I discovered when my world fell apart.”
