TUI to offer £20 Covid tests for holidaymakers heading to green list countries

Tui will offer £20 Covid tests for people who are travelling to countries that are on the government's green list this summer.

The holiday giant announced on Thursday that it has partnered with Chronomics, to offer testing packages which will include both lateral flow antigen and PCR tests, from £20 per person.

This is much cheaper that the current cost of some PCR tests which start from £60 - making holidays considerably more expensive for families.

The government is expected to announce its 'green list' for travel on Friday, May 7, the Mirror Online reports.

Under the traffic light system, people arriving from a green location will not have quarantine, while those returning from somewhere on the amber list must self-isolate for at least five days.

The green list is the most appealing for holidaymakers as it doesn't require any self-isolating or quarantine when you return to the UK, and you only need to take one PCR test when you're back. (You'll still need to take a pre-departure test).

The initial green list is expected to only include a small number of countries, which will be reviewed every three weeks.

TUI will be offering four packages for Covid testing - two for green list destinations, two for amber destinations (the firm isn't operating trips to red destinations).

  • Green package at £20pp containing 1 x pre-departure Lateral Flow Test and 1x inbound PCR test for day two
  • Green package at £60pp containing 1 x outbound PCR test with courier costs 7 days a week included, 1 x pre-departure Lateral Flow Test and 1 x inbound PCR test for day two
  • Amber package at £50pp containing 1 x pre-departure Lateral Flow Test and 2 x inbound PCR tests for day two and day 8
  • Amber package at £90pp containing 1 x outbound PCR test with courier costs 7 days a week included, 1 x pre-departure Lateral Flow Test and 2 x inbound PCR tests for day two 2 and day 8

Brits can book their testing kits through a dedicated booking hub (which launches on May 10), an hour after they have booked their holiday. All they will need is their booking reference, departure date and country of travel.

The tests are for the UK's requirements when you return, but if a country you're travelling to requires a PCR test, you can also opt for a kit that includes an additional test.

Anyone booking a holiday for travel between May 17 and August 31 can also opt for the travel firm's free Covid-19 cover protection.
