TUI cancels holidays to Ibiza, Majorca and Tenerife for Scots

TUI has cancelled holidays in the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands for Scots until August 4.

Both islands include popular holiday destinations such as Ibiza, Majorca, Lanzarote and Tenerife.

The move comes after the Scottish Government imposed quarantine rules on Spain amid a spike in coronavirus cases across the country.

Anyone arriving back to Scotland from Spain will have to self-isolate for 14 days in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Holidays from Scotland to mainland Spain will remain cancelled until August 10.

The tour operator is now seeking to increase flights to the likes of Greece and Turkey to enable more customers to switch destinations.

Both countries are exempt from the Scottish Government’s rules on quarantine.

Holidaymakers south of the border were also left furious this weekend when the UK Government also took action to impose the same rules on Spain and the islands.

Andrew Flintham, managing director of TUI UK and Ireland, said: “We call upon the UK Government to work closely with the travel industry and remove the ‘blunt tool’ approach to quarantine and consider the rapid introduction of regional travel corridors.

“The level of uncertainty and confusion created this week is damaging for business and customer confidence in travel.”
