Tui and Easyjet cancel flights as busy holiday destination bans UK travellers

Morocco has suspended travel to and from the UK as a result of our high Covid cases and airline operators are set to cancel a number of flights to the country as a result.

It comes after the UK reported over 200 deaths yesterday and 50,000 new cases as coronavirus cases continue to surge.

Morocco has also stopped flights to Germany and the Netherlands as a precaution.

The flight suspension comes into effect from 23:59 BST tonight (Wednesday, October 20) until further notice.

EasyJet has already begun cancelling flights to the country with more major airlines set to follow suit.

According to the Independent, the airline is telling passengers: “We’re sorry that your flight has been cancelled. We have been advised of a change of regulation that affects flights from UK arriving into Morocco.

"The regulation comes into effect from tomorrow 21 October 2021, however as we’ll be unable to fly to Morocco in order to operate any return flights after today, we’ve taken the decision to cancel your flight with us today.”

A statement by TUI said: "The Moroccan Government has notified us of a change in regulation that affects flights from the UK to Morocco from 21 October.

"As a result, we have unfortunately had to cancel flights to Marrakech and Agadir up to and including 31 October 2021.

The Foreign Office has since updated their warning: "The Moroccan Government has announced the suspension for an unspecified period of direct flights between Morocco and the UK (and Germany and The Netherlands) with effect from midnight October 20.

"Travellers affected by flight cancellations should contact their airline or tour operator for advice on alternative routes via third countries (eg France, Spain) where flights are operating as normal."
