I know Thursday’s tube strike was inconvenient for many but it worked out well for me on the way back from London to Birmingham. After a train more empty than usual from Earlsfield, it was pleasant to walk from Waterloo to Euston. I rambled round the Southbank and glimpsed the London Eye and Houses of Parliament. A stroll through the theatre district led me to a park outside the station where I sat on the grass in the sunshine with a cup of tea. I’ve taken this journey many times on the tube but never realised what I was passing beneath. I may decide to walk again.
