High street bank TSB is upgrading one of its branches in Birmingham as it adapts to changing consumer habits.
The Perry Barr branch is being converted into the new format which will see a more open and flexible layout aimed at improving interaction with customers.
New technology including tablets will make it easier for staff to talk to customers on video or telephone calls and there will be a larger welcome area and more meeting rooms.
Other new features include the 'Money Hub', which shows features of key products and how they can support customers, and the 'Doing What Matters' wall which focuses on the bank's work in the community.
Conversion work is due to start on the building in Birchfield Road in early September and is expected to be complete by the start of October.
The branch will be closed between September 3 and 21 as part of the work.
TSB said that more than 90 per cent all bank transactions and 70 per cent of product sales were now going through digital channels but support from staff "remained crucial" for customers, particularly when dealing with major issues such as buying a house or starting a family.
This investment from TSB comes at a time when banks have been shutting branches across Birmingham and the West Midlands, with HSBC, Lloyds and Halifax among those to downsize their portfolios in the city over recent years.
TSB's director of branch banking Carol Anderson said: "There have been significant changes in the way customers do their banking and we are responding to that by creating a very different type of branch.
"This new layout will help support our customers and give them money confidence because we can interact with them better."
