Trump UFC fight live: Storms threaten White House event as president’s allies lavish him with 80th birthday wishes

The fight is on, but a pair of unexpected environmental threats are looming. A federal judge has rejected an attempt to block Donald Trump’s UFC cage match from taking place after a lawsuit accused the administration of a “deeply corrupt” scheme to line the pockets of his allies.

Instead, the immediate danger to the event now comes from the sky, as both severe thunderstorms and “extreme” insect swarms threaten to disrupt Sunday’s fight.

A hulking superstructure is taking over the White House lawn for Sunday’s fight, coinciding with the president’s 80th birthday and marking the first-ever private sports event held there. Crews have finished installing a 92-foot-tall “Claw” above the octagon-shaped stage for UFC’s Freedom 250, surrounded by arena-style seating and plastered with brand names and company logos, including Polymarket and Bud Light.

The event — in tandem with a White House-backed celebration of the nation’s 25th anniversary — will hold more than 4,000 people, and a nearby park is expected to hold more than 120,000 visitors for a watch party.

A federal lawsuit threatened to derail the event before it started. The last-minute lawsuit accused the administration of giving the UFC “unfettered access” to turn public landmarks into profitable billboards.

UFC committed $60 million to the event, according to court filings. The event is expected to draw multi-million dollar sponsorships as well as revenue through a broadcast agreement with Paramount +, a streaming platform operated by Trump allies.

White House officials say the UFC is covering costs for the unprecedented production, but several federal agencies have “allocated significant resources and manpower,” officials say.

UFC Freedom 250: Start time, card and how to watch White House fights this weekend

09:30 , Brendan Rascius

This week, the UFC will host an unprecedented event at the White House, putting on a series of fights to celebrate 250 years of the United States.

The UFC’s cage is being constructed on the South Lawn, where seven fights will take place – on the 80th birthday of US president Donald Trump, coincidentally.

Trump is a close friend of UFC president and CEO Dana White, who promised the greatest card in MMA history. And although fans have expressed disappointment in the actual quality of the bout list, it is still a strong collection of contests.

One of the UFC fighters set to take part in Sunday’s White House spectacle described the event as a good distraction.

“The country needs something like this. We can distract the American people from all that’s going on,” Derrick Lewis, a 41-year-old heavyweight who will face off against Josh Hokit, told The Wall Street Journal.

“I’m happy to be part of American history,” Lewis added. “This is one of the events they’ll be talking about 100 years from now.”

A seven-figure sponsorship package is reportedly the best way to guarantee you get a seat at the Ultimate Fighting Championship bout at the White House.

Reports suggest such packages can cost up to $1.5 million, and are considered a kind of de facto political contribution in support of the president.

“The Trump fundraising team is raising money for it,” a Republican lobbyist told NBC News. “It’s basically been added to the list of approved entities to give undisclosed money to and get credit with Trump.”

Only a small share of Americans are on board with President Trump’s UFC cage match set to be held on the South Lawn of the White House on Sunday, according to new polling.

Just 16 percent of Americans believe it’s appropriate for the president to host the fights outside the executive mansion, while 46 percent believe it’s inappropriate, a Reuters survey released on June 11 found. Among Republicans, 31 percent approve of the event.

There's a tiny chance of tornados and hail for tomorrow's UFC fight

Sunday 14 June 2026 00:16 , Brendan Rascius

There’s a small risk that President Trump’s UFC event on Sunday could be hampered by severe weather.

Kyle Pallozzi, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, told USA Today that there is a 2 percent chance of tornados and a 5 percent chance of hail. He placed the odds of damaging winds at 30 percent.

“It's the lowest level they can outlook for a tornado and then also the lowest level they can outlook for hail,’’ Pallozzi said. “So definitely primary threats are damaging winds.”

Trump’s UFC cage match is set to begin at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Motorsports athletes staged a high-flying stunt exhibition outside the White House on Saturday, a day before the president’s planned UFC spectacle.

Photos and videos captured riders soaring through the air between ramps set up on the White House lawn, executing tricks including backflips against the backdrop of the Washington Monument. U.S. military personnel and armored vehicles were also present.

Among the participants was Travis Pastrana, stunt performer and co-founder of sports brand Nitro Circus, which appeared to be sponsoring the event.

Pastrana’s planned participation was reported earlier this week. In a video he posted on Instagram, UFC President Dana White said he helped organize the showcase.

Ahead of Sunday’s remarkable UFC White House fight event, Josh Hokit stole the show at the Saturday morning weigh-in, having done the same at Friday’s press conference.

On Friday evening, all 14 fighters from the seven bouts shared a stage in front of the Lincoln Memorial, trading barbs with their rivals but with Hokit chiming in at every opportunity – regardless of who had been asked a question.

And on Saturday morning, as the fighters weighed in before a crowd of media personnel, Hokit seemingly pretended to throw up, as he dribbled a sick-coloured liquid from his mouth.

Trump loves crashing sports events – thanks to the UFC, he’s got his own with a twist

Saturday 13 June 2026 20:58 , Brendan Rascius

Donald Trump is accustomed to mixed reactions when attending sports events. In fairness, his presence at the New York Knicks’ NBA Finals game this week did not so much draw a divisive reception as vociferous condemnation in Madison Square Garden, but he will not be too bothered. That’s because on Sunday, it will be all cheers and no jeers.

A scarcely believable UFC fight card will play out on the White House’s South Lawn; the 4,000-odd attendees will have been carefully curated. For once, see, Trump is not crashing a sports event; he has his own.

Elon Musk is expected to attend President Donald Trump’s UFC event at the White House tomorrow, according to TMZ, which cited unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

Musk, who became the world’s first trillionaire after SpaceX went public on Friday, fell out with Trump last year over the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” The two have reconciled in recent months, according to news reports.

The trillionaire businessman previously hinted at participating in a cage match himself, calling for a fight with Mark Zuckerberg in 2023. That bout never took place.

Musk has not publicly confirmed he will attend tomorrow’s event.

Inside Trump's push for a White House UFC Octagon

Saturday 13 June 2026 15:30 , Jasmine Fernández

The idea for Sunday’s South Lawn fight card was born in November 2024, when Donald Trump attended a UFC event at Madison Square Garden just after his election victory. Basking in the crowd’s energy, he decided then that he wanted to bring the Octagon to the White House for his 80th birthday, CNN reports.

Nineteen months and $60 million later, that vision is a reality, but it arrives at a much tougher political moment.

Trump is currently facing falling poll numbers, an unpopular war abroad and rising costs at home. Though his team hopes the event will reenergize his base, critics and even some allies are questioning the optics of hosting a lavish sports event on the White House lawn amid growing public frustration.

Judge allows Trump's UFC fight to continue

The fight is on.

A federal judge has rejected a request for an injunction that would have blocked the Trump administration from holding Sunday’s fight.

Friday’s ruling follows a lawsuit from the Public Integrity Project on behalf of two civic activists who accused the administration of a “deeply corrupt” scheme to line the pockets of the president’s allies.

Judge Amit Mehta said the plaintiffs “have not satisfied their burden” of facing “irreparable harm” if the event takes place.

They have fallen short of proving that they will be “directly affected” by the event, which they don’t plan to attend.

“The for-profit elements of UFC Freedom 250 have long been known,” and the absence of congressional approval and environmental review “is not new information,” the judge wrote.

The judge also stressed that the stage and all other materials will be coming down immediately after the fights.

Trump’s UFC Claw will come down ‘immediately,’ White House says — despite president saying it could be there forever

Last week, Trump suggested that the UFC stage on the White House lawn could stay there forever.

“We’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to a lot of people,” he said in a video posted to social media. “I’m looking at it and maybe we’ll never ever take it down.”

But the administration plans to “immediately” dismantle the arena after the end of Sunday’s match, according to court filings.
