President Donald Trump changed his weekend schedule on Friday, canceling plans to stay at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey and returning to the White House after a planned speech in New York. He will also skip the wedding of eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., as negotiations with Iran continue.
The White House schedule initially showed Trump traveling from Suffern, New York, to Trump National Golf Club Bedminster after delivering remarks at Rockland Community College. Roll Call's Factba.se calendar listed the original Friday plan as a departure from Suffern "en route Bedminster, New Jersey," with weekend pool logistics tied to the golf club.
But Reuters reported Friday that Trump canceled the New Jersey stay and would instead return to Washington, a reversal that came as questions mounted over whether the president would attend his son's wedding. Trump said he would not attend the ceremony, citing government responsibilities and ongoing diplomatic concerns involving Iran.
The White House livestream page confirmed Trump was scheduled to deliver remarks on Friday in Suffern, New York. The event was designed to promote Trump's tax law in a competitive congressional district represented by Republican Rep. Mike Lawler, with a focus on the state and local tax deduction.
Trump acknowledged on Thursday that the wedding presented difficult timing. Asked whether he would attend, he said, "He'd like me to go," adding that it was "not good timing" because of "Iran and other things."
The wedding of Trump Jr. and Anderson is expected to take place in the Bahamas in a small private ceremony. Trump Jr., 48, was previously married to Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children, and was later engaged to Kimberly Guilfoyle before their split.
Axios detailed that Trump convened a meeting with senior national security advisors to discuss the war in Iran. The outlet noted that the president is seriously considering launching new strikes against Tehran unless there is a breakthrough in negotiations at the last minute.
At the same time, Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir is set to meet with Iranian officials in Tehran in a new effort to reach a deal.
The immediate goal is reaching a deal to end the war and begin negotiations for a broader agreement, a Pakistani source told Axios.
The outlet noted that his presence in the talks could mean that the country is making a final push towards a deal.
