Trump polls higher on immigration and crime than on the economy

  • A new Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates that a majority of Americans, 53 percent, disapprove of President Donald Trump's handling of the economy, with only 36 percent approving.
  • Just 30 percent of respondents supported his management of the cost of living, following a grim August jobs report that showed only 22,000 jobs were added.
  • This economic blow was compounded by federal findings that the US added 911,000 fewer jobs in the 12 months through March than initially reported.
  • President Trump's overall approval rating stood at 42 percent in the new poll.
  • While he fared better on immigration and crime policies, with 42 percent and 43 percent approval, respectively, he still did not achieve majority support in these areas.
