Former President Donald Trump and his political operation have once again surpassed President Joe Biden in fundraising for the second consecutive month in May. This comes as a surge of donations following Trump's criminal conviction has significantly closed the financial gap that Biden had maintained throughout the campaign.
In May, Biden and the Democrats reported raising $85 million, a notable amount but still falling short of the impressive $141 million disclosed by Trump and his political operation. Trump's fundraising was notably boosted by a substantial influx of donations immediately following his conviction in a New York criminal case for falsifying business records on May 30.

As of the end of May, Biden's campaign revealed a substantial cash stockpile of $212 million, showcasing the financial strength that has been accumulated over the course of the campaign. On the other hand, Trump's campaign has not yet disclosed the total cash reserves for all of its committees, with official figures expected to be reported next month.
However, recent Federal Election Commission filings shed some light on the financial standings of the two campaigns. Trump's main committee was reported to have over $116.5 million in cash reserves as of May 31, while Biden's main campaign account held $91.6 million. This marks a significant shift from the previous month when Biden had a $35 million cash advantage over Trump.
The Biden campaign emphasized that their substantial war chest has enabled them to establish a robust campaign infrastructure. They highlighted their strategic hiring efforts, in collaboration with the Democratic Party, which has resulted in the recruitment of over 1,000 staffers across key battleground states.
