Trump is said to have called Democrat Schumer about health care

WASHINGTON _ President Donald Trump called Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer on Friday to talk health care, with Trump reaching out to the pivotal New York dealmaker as he seeks to revive legislation to overhaul U.S. health care laws, a person familiar with the telephone call said.

The person, who asked not to be named because the conversation was private, wouldn't specify what the two men discussed. Republicans, who control both chambers of Congress, have failed twice this year to repeal the Affordable Care Act despite promising to do so for the past seven years.

Trump baffled fellow Republicans last month when he struck a deal with Schumer and House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi to permanently safeguard from deportation almost 1 million immigrants brought illegally to the U.S. as children.

Axios reported the president's conversation with Schumer earlier.
