Trump in Palm Beach: Local governments are reimbursed $3.9 million for security

PALM BEACH, Fla. _ Local governments and police have spent $13.7 million to protect the president during the 27 visits he and his family made to Mar-a-Lago between his election in November 2016 and Easter of last year.

U.S. Rep. Lois Frankel, a Democrat, said Tuesday that federal officials have reimbursed the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, West Palm Beach Police Department, and Town of Palm Beach $3.9 million for protecting President Donald Trump during his visits to the county between November 2018 and April 2019.

"Trump's many trips to Mar-a-Lago have significant impact on local budgets," Frankel said in a statement. "This money will provide much needed relief. I will continue working with colleagues to make sure our community is provided with appropriate, timely federal compensation as long as the president continues to call Palm Beach his home."

Frankel, who serves on the House Appropriations Committee, said the sheriff's office received the bulk of the reimbursement _ $3,863,741. West Palm Beach police got $57,597 and the Town of Palm Beach received $15,102.

The federal government had already reimbursed the county and others nearly $10 million for expenses through September 2018.

Not covered by any of those totals are Trump's three trips to Palm Beach County, spanning 25 days, since this past Thanksgiving. His most recent stay was this past weekend.
