New York Knicks fans devastated after their team lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 3 of the NBA Finals have found a new person to blame — President Donald Trump.
The Knicks were on a 13-game winning streak, including the first two games in the best-of-seven series against the Spurs. They were also on a historic run until Monday, when Trump attended Game 3 at Madison Square Garden, and the Knicks lost 115-111.
Trump’s attendance at the game was already causing friction for many New Yorkers, who saw watch parties canceled, including the one outside MSG, and a strict security perimeter implemented around the arena that kept fans from sports bars — and forced those attending the game to wait in lengthy security lines.
The president was met with loud boos both inside and outside the arena, including when he appeared on the Jumbotron during the national anthem.
And when the winning streak finally came to an end, Knicks fans knew who to point fingers at, with some taking to social media to complain of the “Trump Curse.”
“I’m not an expert on jinxes, hexes, curses, and voodoo. Not superstitious either. But if I was the Knicks, I probably wouldn’t let Trump near the arena for Game 4. Just to be on the safe side,” one X user wrote.
Another Knicks fan complained: “Trump literally shut down New York and canceled watch parties just to fall asleep during the game and curse the Knicks to a loss smh. Generational L.”
Even California Gov. Gavin Newsom took a moment to mock Trump over the “curse.” The Democrat reposted a Tweet that read “The Knicks’ 13-game winning streak comes to an end after President Trump attends Game 3 of the NBA Finals,” and added a screenshot of an old White House post that read: “Call it the Trump effect.”
“Results of major sports games Trump went to when he was rooting for a team: 2025 Super-bowl: Chiefs L, 2025 College Football Championship: Miami L, 2026 NBA Finals Game 3: Knicks L. The Trump curse is real,” one X user wrote.
An X account called Republicans Against Trump noted: “Trump attends Game 3. The Knicks suffer their first loss of the Finals. Everything Trump touches dies.”
Another X user complained: “G-d dammit, Trump, you jacka***. We haven’t won since 1973. You just blew our 13-game playoff winning streak. Go back to your stupid golf club in Florida. Stay the hell away from our Knicks. We don’t want your #TrumpCurse.”
