President Donald Trump said Jasmine Crockett's candidacy to the U.S. Senate in the Texas race next year is a "gift to Republicans," as her progressive and confrontational stance could give an edge to the GOP's candidate.
Speaking to The Hill's Julia Manchester aboard Air Force One, Trump called Crockett a "low-IQ person" and said he can't "imagine he wins."

“She’s a low IQ person. I can’t imagine she wins. Maybe she’ll get the Democratic nomination but I think it’s a gift to Republicans…I’ve watched her for the last two years. I can’t even believe she’s a politician…
"Maybe she'll get the Democratic nomination but I think it's a gift to Republicans...I've watched her for the last two years. I can't even believe she's a politician actually," he added.
In fact, the Republican party's official X account mocked Crockett after her announcement. "Low-IQ Jasmine Crockett is officially running in Texas for U.S. Senate. This is really who the Democrats are clearing the field for," the account said on Monday.
The post includes a video to its more than 3.4 million followers with different clips of her the party deems unfavorable.
"I want to people to understand that there are crimes that are committed not because people are criminals but because they are literally trying to survive," one of them says.
Incumbent Texas Sen. John Cornyn also expressed joy at the possibility of facing Crockett in an election. "Am I hiding my glee? I'll try to wipe the smile off my face, I would say it's a gift," he told Semafor.
"Colin — obviously, he wasn't successful before, but he was what I would call closer to a normal Democrat than Jasmine. [She] is something else," he added, in reference to the fact that former Rep. Colin Allred dropped out of the race as Crockett was gearing up to run. State Rep. James Talarico has not dropped out is campaigning for the seat.
Crockett came out on top of a recent poll of potential Democratic candidates for the U.S. Senate. Conducted by the University of Houston and Texas Southern University among over 1,600 registered voters between September 19 and October 1, it showed Crockett with 31% of the support, compared to state Talarico (25%), former Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke (25%) and Allred (13%). The margin of error was +/- 2.4%.
