President Donald Trump said it's "not going to be easy" for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to return to politics after announcing her departure from Congress at the beginning of the next year.
Speaking to NBC News, Trump said that he, however, "would love to see" an attempt to return to the political spotlight following her resignation, which Greene announced for January 5. "She's going to take a little rest," Trump added.
Greene announced her resignation on Friday, claiming that criticism from Trump came from her advocacy to release the Epstein files.
"Standing up for American women who were raped at 14, trafficked and used by rich powerful men, should not result in me being called a traitor and threatened by the President of the United States, whom I fought for," Greene wrote in her resignation address.
She went on to say that she was "too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will lose the midterms."
Trump, on his end, claimed in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Greene's decision was a result of "PLUMMETING Poll Numbers and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!)"
"For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD," Trump added. "Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!"
TIME claims “sources” told them I’m running for President in 2028, which means this is a complete lie and they made it up because they can’t even quote the names of the people who they claim said it. That’s not journalism, it’s called lying.

Greene rejected her decision has to do with potentially running for president in 2028, like a report from Time claimed during the weekend. "TIME claims "sources" told them I'm running for President in 2028, which means this is a complete lie and they made it up because they can't even quote the names of the people who they claim said it. That's not journalism, it's called lying. I'm not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it. If you fell for those headlines, you're still being lulled everyday into psychosis by the Political Industrial Complex that always has an agenda when it does something like this," she added.
