Charleston, West Virginia, native Michael Ray Sigmon made explicit threats to kill President Donald Trump if he runs for a third term in 2028, according to a criminal complaint filed in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.
According to court filings, the West Virginia State Police (WVSP) received a complaint on October 12, 2025. Authorities say Sigmon, 66, and a candidate running for the West Virginia House of Delegates in District 52, submitted a volunteer form for the Mountain Party containing language threatening the murder of local law enforcement officers and, more specifically, to “execute President Donald Trump via beheading.”
In a follow-up, investigators say Sigmon posted messages on social media stating that if Trump is elected in 2028, “I will execute on Day 1 on the South lawn.” Sigmon is also accused of tagging high-profile accounts such as Elon Musk with posts threatening to “chop off your … head” once Sigmon is elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates.
According to West Virginia news outlet WCHS, Sigmon declared his candidacy under the Mountain Party for the House of Delegates in West Virginia, with a committee name “Hell Bent for the House.”

In addition to his threats toward Donald Trump, Sigmon also allegedly targeted police officers and West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey. Police say Sigmon published messages suggesting he would “take out” or “eliminate” the governor, whom he accused of corruption and “treason against the people.”
On October 18, West Virginia law enforcement arrested Sigmon on charges including making terroristic threats and harassing and threatening communications via computer. He is currently held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
