Truck's shifted load causes traffic delays in west Lake Macquarie

WIDE LOAD: The truck on Five Islands Bridge.

MORNING traffic was backed up for kilometres through multiple suburbs in west Lake Macquarie on Monday after a truck became struck overnight on Five Islands Bridge.

The oversize truck's load, a concrete bridge girder from a nearby industrial business, shifted as the driver was travelling north about 1.45am.

A crane had to be called in to realign the load before the truck could be moved.

The incident caused delays for motorists with a long line of traffic forming from the bridge back to the Toronto Lions Park.

A contra flow was in place until the truck was moved about 8.30am.

Lake Macquarie Police said it was an unfortunate incident and there would be no further action.
