Trossard transfer, Leao decision - Chelsea’s future attack under Graham Potter after £147m spend

Chelsea have spent £270million in Todd Boehly's first summer but the owners have promised significant and stable investment in the first team squad over their reign which will be music to the ears of new manager Graham Potter.

Significant investment was made to the defensive backline following the exodus of the likes of Antonio Rüdiger, Andreas Christensen and Marcos Alonso. Midfield and attack was touched upon with the Denis Zakaria, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling acquisitions but future contractual situations could cause those two areas to be built upon in the next few transfer windows.

Jorginho and N'Golo Kante's situation could mean that a Jude Bellingham or Moises Caicedo type player could be added to the ranks. Up top though, Aubameyang is scheduled to only be around for three years maximum. It's important to remember that Potter is signed up to a five-year deal.

Elsewhere, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech, both whom wanted to leave under Thomas Tuchel's watch, could continue to push for an exit if their own respective situations were not to change much under the German's successor.

This could mean more attacking-minded players could be signed externally to compensate for future outgoings. AC Milan are still open to potentially allowing Rafael Leao leave for his £134m release clause whilst Benjamin Sesko is off the table with the Red Bull Salzburg star set to join sister club RB Leipzig at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Potter favourite Leandro Trossard, just like Caicedo has done, opened up to a potential reunion with their now former manager in the near future if the opportunity presents itself his way. "Our coach has now left for Chelsea, but speculations about me following him are pointless," the Belgian international opened up during this international break.

"If the opportunity arises, I want to go. But I do want to play and not sit on the couch." The 27-year-old is valued at around £13m by the CIES Football Observatory but the reality is that Brighton would demand closer to £35m for their European talent.

With this in mind, football.london previews what Chelsea's attack could look like if this £147 million spend were to be sanctioned by Boehly.

Potter has shown that he can play various systems which involve a two up top look. But in his first Champions League game vs Red Bull Salzburg, Tuchel's successor opted for a front three. Whichever one is to be optimised, both Leao and Trossard would almost likely start in both concepts.

But for this formation, it will be a front three would would see the two new signings start alongside Raheem Sterling. Aubameyang would become a bit part player like Olivier Giroud was.

The other attackers like Armando Broja and Kai Havertz would have to up their game and fight for their place.
