Tropical Storm Katia forms off Mexico: NHC

(Reuters) - A tropical depression has strengthened into storm Katia over the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Wednesday.

Storm Katia, about 105 miles (165 km) east of Tampico, Mexico, and packing maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (65 km per hour), is expected to remain offshore of Mexico through Friday morning, the NHC said.
