Triumph’s New Kid Range Will Turn the Next Generation Into Off-Road Animals

Kids who grow up through the piano grading system almost always have a better understanding of music than the rest of us musically inclined adult plebs—it's like a cheat code. The equivalent of this in the motorcycling world is riding motocross or trials as a child—the two-wheeled cheat code. Now, Triumph's latest TXP range means it has never been easier, safer, or more affordable to get your children into both motocross and trials simultaneously.

The TXP range features a unique 2-in-1 modular design for seated off-road and standing trials-style riding, and is based on the OSET platform—the brand Triumph acquired in 2022. Although the TXP-12 and TXP-16 are closely based on the OSET platform, these models are steps ahead of what OSET is offering, as they feature brushless motors, lithium-ion batteries, and a design change that enables a quicker trials-to-seat and mudguard change.

The differences between the two models come down to size, power, and the age groups they're suited to. The TXP-12 is intended for children aged 3-5 years old, while the TXP-16 is for 5-7 year olds.

TXP-12

The TXP-12 features a lightweight steel frame, which weighs just 50.05 lbs in trials setup, making it a good starting place for your little man or woman to learn how to pick up a bike after it goes down. Again, in trials configuration, the seat is just 14.17 inches, and just goes up to 17.52 inches in Explore mode. Everything from the grips to the short-reach brake levers makes this an easy bike to get on with for youngsters, but don't mistake it for a toy.

Powering this little package is a Triumph-tuned 600W 43V brushless motor and sealed, high-capacity battery pack, which is good for up to three hours of light riding or shorter, more intense sessions. An integrated LED panel shows real-time battery state of charge, and recharging isn't a pain either, thanks to the tool-free, twist-lock battery connector and built-in carry case.

When it comes to the rough stuff, 50mm front fork travel and 60mm from the coil rear shock take care of business. The rear shock has preload adjustability, which is great for letting your youngster grow with the bike.

To ensure the youngster riding the bike doesn't outgrow it too quickly and likewise, that there's not too much power on top from the get-go, there's a PIN-protected keypad that adjusts power, throttle response, and the top speed, which goes up to 14 mph. The bike's magnetic safety lanyard and two-stage startup system add an extra layer of protection alongside the motor's 4-stage power adjustment system.

TXP-16

The TXP-16 is much the same as the TXP-12, but on a bigger scale. It's powered by a 765W 43V motor that, combined with larger wheels and a slightly larger chassis, gives it a 19 mph top speed.

More power and a bigger chassis require more stopping power, hence the reason that the TXP-16 features hydraulic piston disc brakes instead of the cable-operated discs on its younger sibling. The suspension is also beefier on the TXP-16 with 80mm of front-end travel and 90mm at the rear.

Although TXP-16 offers notably more performance when compared to the TXP-12, it only weighs a few pounds more, coming in at 58.64 lbs in trials configuration. The seat height is 21.56 inches in Explore mode and 17.72 inches in trials mode.

The next generation of bikers will be a scary thing if they get their hands on these from a young age, and luckily for your little ones, they'll be out before Christmas. In fact, you can put an order in now at selected Triumph dealerships if you're happy to hand over $1,695 for the TXP-12 or $2,295 for the TXP-16.
