Tripura Cricket Association secretary fires salvo against president

KOLKATA: It’s time for Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) secretary Timir Chanda to fire a salvo in the ongoing tussle between him and the association. According to reports, Chanda had shot a letter to TCA president Manik Sarkar asking him to abandon the idea of conveying a special general meeting on Friday.

It was learnt that Sarkar had called for the meeting via a whatsapp message to discuss the issue of ouster of Chanda from the association on which the Agartala civil court had issued a stay order.

Chanda claimed that any discussion on the matter will be illegal and will go against the court’s order. At the same time, the former Tripura Ranji Trophy player also stated that Sarkar has no right to hold office at the TCA since no public servant is eligible for a post according to the rules of the association.

The highest court of the state on January 18 this year had ordered Chanda to continue in office till the completion of a case in this regard in the lower court. That case has still not been resolved there.

However, this was not the first time that the TCA Apex Council members tried to remove the former Ranji Trophy player of the state from his post. They had earlier removed Chanda from his post on March 13, 2021.

The former all-rounder then moved the Western additional district judge court No. 2 challenging the association’s decision. The court ruled in Chanda’s favour on October 4, 2021. But the TCA officials refused to still admit Chanda back and they approached the high court seeking a stay order.
