Tributes to 'genuine and sweet' Bryn Hargreaves found dead

Tributes have been paid to an ex-Wigan Warriors and St Helens player who has died.

The body of former rugby star, Bryn Hargreaves, was found 14 months after he went missing. His family confirmed the 37-year-old's death on Facebook but said they still do not know his cause of death or what actually happened.

Former colleagues of Bryn, including the chairman of St Helens rugby league club, have shared their condolences. Fans have also rushed to pay their respects, with one calling him a "genuine and sweet guy."

Two of Bryn's former club's, Bradford Bulls and Wigan Warriors have also paid tribute.

A spokesman for Bradford Bulls said: "We are extremely saddened to learn the body of former player Bryn Hargreaves has been found. "Our thoughts and condolences are with Bryn's family and friends at this difficult time."

Wigan Warriors said: "Wigan Warriors are saddened to learn of the passing of former player, Bryn Hargreaves. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

Chairman of St Helens R.F.C. paid tribute to Bryn saying: "It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of our former player Bryn Hargreaves. Our thoughts and prayers are very much with his family at this incredibly difficult time.

"They have also had to deal with a prolonged period of stress prior this awful news. Bryn was extremely well liked and respected by his team mates and by all involved with the club during his four seasons with us from 2007 to 2010.

"He was very much part of the great Saints team of that era and was a World Club Challenge winner in 2007 and a Challenge Cup winner in 2008. It is a real tragedy that he has died at such a young age. He will be remembered with genuine warmth and with affection by us all."

On Facebook, Rebecca Aitchison said: "Rest in peace Bryn. Such a genuine and sweet guy." Matthew Riley commented: "Such a sad ending that you always feared with Bryn being missing for so long. RIP."

While a third, Paul Seddon added: "Dreadful but almost inevitable news. My deepest condolences to his family and friends." And Bradford Bulls fan Brian Barton said: "He was a great player for us may he now RIP condolences to all his family."
