Tributes pour in for Irish woman found dead in Brooklyn as NYPD continue investigation

Tributes are pouring in for an Irish woman who was found dead in Brooklyn, New York, on March 1.

Denise McKenna, who was living in the States at the time of her death, is originally from Castleblayney, Co Monaghan.

Police responded to an emergency call-out last Tuesday, and arrived to find McKenna unconscious and unresponsive with injuries consistent with a fall from “an elevated position.”

The local medical examiner is due to determine the cause of her death, however, according to RTE, a spokesperson confirmed that it is not deemed to be suspicious at this time.

The 51-year-old will be laid to rest on Wednesday in her hometown of Castleblayney as NYPD officers continue their investigations into her death.

An announcement on Rip.ie reads: "The death has occurred of Denise Mary Mc Kenna, Brooklyn, New York and late of Modeece, Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan, Tuesday, March 1st, (tragically) in New York.

“Denise, deeply regretted and remembered with love by her family, daughter Liz and son Noel, parents Noel and Cherrie (Claire) and Cherrie's husband Michael Reilly, brothers Peter and Gerry, sisters-in-law Joan and Geraldine, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbors and many friends both here in Ireland and New York.”

Since the announcement was posted, condolences have been flooding in for the much-loved mother of two.

One mourner wrote: “Sincere condolences to Noel, Cherrie, Denise's children Noel & Liz & the Mc Kenna & Brady families. I remember Denise as a beautiful little girl many moons ago when we were regular visitors at her Grandparent's house. May she rest in peace.”

Another said: “May Denise rest in eternal peace. My Deepest and heartfelt sympathy to all her family at this very sad time. A lovely lady and past neighbour.’

Among the hundreds of messages to the family, a third person added: “So sad to learn of Denise’s passing, she made me feel so welcome when I first met her in Brooklyn. I always remember her kindness. She had gifts for my mum, sister and myself. She was a good friend to David and I know he will miss her dearly. Rest in peace Denise.”

Denise’s funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church, Castleblayney at 11:00 am.
