Tributes pour in after death of much-loved kitman Michael 'Locker' Davis

Tributes have been pouring in after well-known kitman Michael 'Locker' Davis passed away.

The former Cabinteely, Athlone, Bray, Drogheda, and TEK United kitman, who also served multiple Irish international teams, sadly passed following a battle with cancer over the past few months.

Davis was described as a legend of Ireland's football community and was well known for his "welcoming smile, wit, and humour" according to League of Ireland club Cabinteely FC.

Posting a tribute online, they extended their deepest sympathies to Michael's family saying he'll be greatly missed.

They wrote: "It is with deep sadness that Cabinteely has learned of the passing of our much-loved and legendary kitman Michael “Locker” Davis following an illness bravely fought over the last few months.

"Locker spent a lifetime in football having had spells a Kitman in TEK United, Bray Wanderers, Athlone Town, Drogheda United and lately with ourselves in Cabinteely FC where he will be greatly missed.

"He was also Kitman at League of Ireland Representative and Irish International level. Locker was well known for his welcoming smile, his wit and humour and above all else, his professionalism.

"We extend our sympathies to Locker’s wife, Heather, his daughters, Ciara, Shari and Amanda, his grandchildren and his many friends in the football family.

"May he Rest in Peace. Funeral arrangements later."

This Sunday will see a testimonial which was organised for Michael a number of weeks ago to raise funds for him and his family.

Three games will be played in Stradbrook with the first game between 'Locker's Legends' and 'League of Ireland Legends' kicking off at 2om.

Those who'd like to attend can purchase tickets directly from Cabinteely or Bray Wanderers.

The entire event only costs €10 with all funds going to Michael's family.
