Tributes paid as 'beautiful lady' and mum-of-four knocked down in horror Sligo crash to be laid to rest

A mum-of-four who died after being struck by a car that mounted a footpath in Sligo will be laid to rest on Friday.

Marguerite Kilfeather, who was described as a woman of “skill and merriment”, was pronounced dead at the scene after a car lost control and struck her and another pedestrian before smashing through a shop window.

The mum will be brought to Saint Columba’s Church, Rosses Point, Co Sligo, at 3pm for a funeral mass followed by burial in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Scarden, Strandhill Road, Sligo.

A funeral notice reads: “The tragic and untimely death has taken place of Marguerite Kilfeather (née Flynn), “Hartland House”, Ballyweelin, Rosses Point, Sligo on April 26th 2022.

“Dearly loved wife of Bryan and cherished mother of Joy, Andrea, Marguerite and Drew. She will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her husband, daughters, son, sister Denise (Birr), daughter-in-law, sons-in-law, adored grandchildren Alexandrea, Killian, Ingrid, Kai, Ethan, Elyse, Evelyn and Bryan, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours, her bridge fraternity and many friends.

“Rest in Peace.

“Home private to family, relatives and close friends only.

“Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday April 29th 2022 in Saint Columba’s Church, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo at 3pm. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, Scarden, Strandhill Road, Sligo.

“Family flowers only please, donations in lieu if desired to the Cardiology Unit at Sligo University Hospital c/o Seán Feehily’s Funeral Home, Cartron Cross, Sligo at www.feehilys.ie/pay.”

Tributes to Marguerite have poured in after the local community were left shocked by her tragic death.

Sharing their condolences with Marguerite’s family, one person wrote: “Sincere sympathy to Bryan and family and the extended Kilfeather and Flynn families on the tragic passing of Marguerite. We will miss her skill and merriment at the bridge table. May she rest in peace.”

Another said: “Bryan, Drew, Marguerite, Xavier, Ethan and Elyse, we are so sorry to hear of the passing of Wife/Mum. She was such a beautiful lady. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. May she rest in peace x x”

While a third commented: “We were so shocked to hear of Marguerite untimely death. Our Deepest Sympathies to you Bryan

“Joy, Andrea, Marguerite and Drew. Also her sister Denise and extended families. Marguerite was a beautiful lady, always had a smile for everyone and a great eye to detail. She will be sadly missed by all. May her gentle soul rest in peace.”

“Sincere sympathy to Brian and the Kilfeather and Flynn families on the tragic n untimely death of cousin Marguerite . Shock is too mild a word to try n understand what has happened.thank u Marguerite for the lovely memories we shall miss you n the fun you brought us”, a fourth said.

The other injured pedestrian, one man, was rushed to Sligo University Hospital where he is said to be stable, with a suspected broken shoulder.
